Discover our study regions!

Use the interactive maps to explore our two study regions: the Dölauer Heide in Halle (Saale) and the South Harz Karst Landscape Biosphere Reserve. In these two regions we develop and test our research approach. Here the project team has carried out field assessments of forest condition. We took many pictures and recorded key forest-structure parameters to train our AI models and validate their outputs.

Each study region has an interactive map with our plot points and site-specific information to each plot. The maps will show you which data we collected and the distinctive ‘focus features’ that characterise each site, while also offering a preview of the insights our AI models could provide in future. Simply click the markers to learn more about the local forest and our work.
